2009 Intercollegiate Tournament

The UBC Fencing Club is hosting the annual Intercollegiate Tournament. We have invited SFU, UVIC and WWU to come spar with us, hopefully some of the fencers from each university can make it!

Here are the details of the tournament:

Date: Saturday, February 7, 2009

Pre-registration deadline: Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:00 pm (you can sign up during practice or email us, we need 1 week's notice to organize this). A $5 late fee (per event) will be charged to you if you register LATE!

Location: SUB Ballroom

Events: Mixed Foil, Mixed Epee and Mixed Sabre (all electric)

Time: Mixed Foil registration opens 10:00 am to 12:00 pm; Mixed Epee registration opens 10:00 am to 12:30 pm; and Mixed Sabre registration opens 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Fencing will begin promptly after registration closes.

Entry fee: $10 per event

Prizes: Awards will be rewarded to the top 4 fencers of each event (gold, silver and 2 bronzes). There will be no bronze medal final. Plaques will go to 1st place, and medals will go to 2nd and 3rd place.

Food and drinks will be provided at no additional cost. The entry fee will cover food and other supplies that will be needed to organize this tournament.

Pools and Direct elimination rounds will be self-judged.

Please pre-register EARLY to avoid the $5 late fee (per event). Deadline will be on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:00 pm. You can pre-register either by email or during fencing practice.

Because this tournament involves electric equipment (and club electric gear costs money) and not everyone has their own electric gear, we will be renting out and charging a non-refundable deposit on our electric gear to UBC Fencing Club members during the Intercollegiate at the prices listed below:
- $3 per body cord (bayonet or 3-prong - for sabre, includes mask cord)
- $4 per weapon (electric foil, epee or sabre)
- $5 per foil lame or sabre lame jacket (includes electric sabre mask for sabre)
- OR $5 bundle package to borrow BOTH a body cord and weapon

This will ensure that everyone actually takes good care of club equipment instead of being reckless.

If you would like to help volunteer, please come see Steph! We could use the extra help in setting pistes and getting all the machines ready. Set-up begins at 10:00 am so feel free to drop by to help us out!

If you have any questions or concerns about the tournament, feel free to drop us an email.
