Club Elections - Monday, March 7, 2011

Hi everyone,

It's that time of year again. We will be having our club elections on Monday, March 7, 2011, at 8:00 pm in the SUB Ballroom. The elections will happen first so we can get that out of the way before fencing practice starts. We urge you all to come out and vote! We need at least 15 members to count as a quorum (for voting purposes)!!!

These are the executive positions available:
President
Vice-President
Treasurer
Secretary
Social Coordinator
Armourer

We will be accepting nominations until March 6 at 10:00 pm. Please email us as soon as possible if you want to run for a position! :)

Note that you will need to provide a speech on why we should vote for you! :)
Minimum 30 seconds, maximum 2 minutes.

Please take the time to think about whether you might be interested in running for an executive position. Note that you can only run for one position BUT you are allowed to be nominated for more than one position in the event you do not get voted and chosen. You can nominate yourself or someone can nominate you for that position. Another thing to note is that you HAVE to be a UBC student next year (both semesters - September 2011 to April 2012) to run for a position, no exceptions...if you are graduating in November 2011, then you obviously cannot run for an executive position. Also, running a club and being an executive is good for your resume! :)

Here is a brief summary of the duties:
President - calls and chairs all meetings, coordinates all business of the club, act as liaison to AMS, Student Administrative Commission (SAC), BC Fencing Association and Canadian Fencing Federation (CFF)
Vice-President - helps President call/chair meetings if President is not present, help act as club liaison, help President with coordinating and running of the club...sort of like a right hand man
Treasurer - handles the finances of the club, and act as one of the two bookings representatives of the club
Secretary - records, keeps and takes minutes of all meetings
Social Coordinator - organizes social (non-tournament) events (e.g. dinners, bowling nights, laser tag, food outings, movie socials)
Armourer - repairs all club equipment

In terms of executive meetings, we usually have it once a month.

If you have any questions regarding elections or if you want to learn more about what an executive does, feel free to approach any of the executives and ask!
