No fencing on January 24 and 27th

Hi everyone,

There will be NO FENCING next week - Monday, January 24 and Thursday, January 27, 2011 - fencing is CANCELLED. There are no rooms available in the SUB for us to book...so we can't really do any fencing! We apologize for the inconvenience. Looks like there is going to be a bunch of events including a career fair expo happening next week, hence why all the rooms have been booked.

Armoury day - Monday, January 17, 2011

Hi everyone,

Our club armourer, Seino, is doing another Armoury Day on Monday, January 17, 2011, upstairs in the SUB at 7:00 pm. We'll be at the couches near room 214/216 fixing electric equipment.

If you have any broken electric weapons or if you don't know what's wrong with them, bring your weapons and he'll have a look at it to see what's wrong.

If you are competing in the upcoming CSCs on January 28-30, you should come to Armoury Day to make sure all of your electric equipment is working.

If you would like to come, please RSVP by emailing us. See you there!

FIE rules changes for 2011

Hi everyone,

I came across this very informative article on FIE rules changes for 2011. It's worth a read, especially to those who compete. The official FIE documents are listed below the article under "Reference Links".

Training camp for CSCs - Sunday, January 23, 2011

Hi everyone,

The BCFA is hosting a pre-competition training camp for athletes registered to compete at the CSCs. The Canadian Fencing Federation CSCs will be held in Richmond, BC, from January 28-30, 2011.

The camp is intended as a pre-competition "tune up" for interested athletes. Due to size limitations, the camp will only be open to BCFA members who have registered for the CSCs by January 14th.

The camp will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2011, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, at Dynamo Fencing Club (#3122 - 12811 Rowan Place Richmond, BC), and coached by Provincial Head Coach Victor Gantsevich and Provincial Coaches Zbig Pietrusinski and Theodora Runtova.

Club coaches interested in attending to improve their coaching skills may do so with prior permission - please email president.bcfa@gmail.com if interested in attending as a club coach.

Pre-registration is a requirement for the camp. There will be absolutely no registration on the day of the camp. Pre-registration closes on Saturday, January 22, 2011. Please pre-register on ASKFRED at the following link: http://askfred.net/Clinics/moreInfo.php?clinic_id=14009

The cost of the camp will be $20 - payable by cash or cheque only, with cheques made payable to the BCFA.

Fencing unfortunately cancelled this week

Hi everyone,

Fencing will have to be cancelled for this week. We apologize to those who actually came to today's fencing practice (in the pouring rain) to find out that the SUB was closed/locked! We had no idea the building would be closed today. All of the SUB doors appear to be locked. The AMS let us book a room for today starting at 7:00 pm in the SUB...but failed to inform us that the building would be closed/locked. Not sure why they let us book a room in the first place, considering the building is locked and that no one was able to get into the SUB...

Anyway, we would like to apologize for the inconvenience. :(

Because we don't want the same situation to happen again, we will have to cancel Thursday's fencing practice. I have no way of knowing if the SUB will be closed again on Thursday. So...to play it safe, there will be no fencing for the remainder of December.

We will see you all in January. The term 2 schedule has been posted up on our website:
http://ubcfencing.blogspot.com/2010/12/2010-2011-term-2-schedule.html

The first class for term 2 will start on Thursday, January 6.

Anyway, we hope you enjoy the rest of your winter break and have a happy new year. Again, we apologize for the confusion and inconvenience.
