Fencing Cancelled on Thursday, April 7, 2016 -- Meet up for dinner instead!
Hi everyone,
We unfortunately won't be having a practice tomorrow night (April 7th). Instead, anyone interested can check out the new Storm Crow Alehouse located on West Broadway & Fir Street (1619 West Broadway). Unfortunately they do not do bookings after 6:00 pm, but I spoke to their booking agent and he said he didn't think there would be a problem with us walking in. So let's say people meet there at 7:00 pm, we can wait in the bar if there are no tables ready. If people would like to go earlier, please keep in mind that groups are limited for 3 hour time periods.
See you all there!

T-shirt Design Contest Voting - March 10, 2016
Hi folks,
We are re-scheduling our T-shirt Design Contest voting to Thursday, March 10, 2016 during fencing practice. Come out to decide which logo should be on our new t-shirts!
We will also discuss what types of clothing (e.g., t-shirts, wick-away, sweat or track pants, track jacket, etc.) do people want to order so we can ask the company for a quote and find out how much it would cost.

2016 Club T-Shirt Competition
Hi all,
We are currently taking in designs for the newest club t-shirt! The deadline was January 31, 2016, but we will extend it to February 12, 2016. That gives you some time to design the logo. The winner will have his/her logo plastered on the club t-shirt PLUS he/she will receive a club t-shirt free of charge! All entries will be displayed sometime during fencing practice in February (date to be announced later). It will be voted on by the general membership! Yay! We'll number all entries so no one will know who did what. That way, voting will be less biased.
Here are the rules and criteria for the contest:
1. It may either be a black and white logo OR a colour logo.
2. It must be a fencing-related logo for the club.
3. It must be an original design. No plagiarism please!
4. No profanity, offensive remarks or inappropriate content are allowed.
5. The logo may have a combination of words, images or both. It is up to the artist to decide what they want in the logo.
6. Jpeg files are allowed. Other files are probably allowed - please talk to us in advance.
We recommend you use free legit programs like GIMP or Inkscape for illustrating your design.
7. Please make the logo at a considerable size so it may be enlarged for the t-shirt (if necessary). We will most likely be printing them off on 8.5 x 11 inch paper so try to make it big and clear (at least clear enough on normal sized paper).
8. One entry per person.
9. Winning submissions will become property of the UBC Fencing Club.
I suppose that is about it for rules. Pretty much anything goes (just nothing offensive, please!) :) Please send us your logo design at the club email address: fencingubc@gmail.com
If you are curious what was done in previous years, you can always ask members who have been around longer, or check out facebook for some. We had a few shirts up from various years. If you have any other questions, please drop us an email. :) Good luck to all who enter!!
Voting will happen on the same day as club elections on March 7, 2016!

Recent last minute room changes
Dear members of the UBC Fencing Club,
We are aware that there have been
many last minute room changes over the past few months and we are anticipating
similar situations to happen throughout the next few months. This is due to changes
in the booking system of the university’s Alma Mater Society (AMS). They have
just switched to a new booking system and are still trying to figure out how to
allocate rooms efficiently for the few hundred clubs under UBC AMS.
We sincerely apologize for the
inconvenience caused. We assure you that practice will always be on every Mondays
and Thursdays at 6:30pm, either in The Nest or the Old SUB, unless otherwise
stated. It is advised that you do check the practice schedule for any last
minute notices for room changes. They will be posted on our Facebook page and/or
BlogSpot page and we are definitely anticipating more regular room bookings in
the future. Thank you.
Sincerely,
UBC
Fencing Club

We're Officially Thunderbirds Now!
Hey fencers,
The fencing competitive team has now transitioned to a new program called the UBC Thunderbirds Sport Clubs (TSC). The UBC TSC is the newest competition option for UBC students. The main difference between staying with the AMS in previous years and transitioning to UBCTSC is now the competitive team can represent the university going into competitions.
Our recreation team is still affiliated with AMS and we welcome all levels of fencers. However, if you are interested in making the competitive team during the season please come to practice and contact us through fencingubc@gmail.com. Alternatively, you can approach one of our lovely executives and they will happily provide information regarding joining the team.
Looking forward to seeing you guys at practice!
